He explained that accommodation is what students experience before orientation or first lectures, influencing first impressions, daily life, financial status, and even sense of belonging.

Major Australian cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Gold Coast serve as study destinations welcoming students from around the world, with housing discussions historically focusing mainly on supply availability.

No One-Size-Fits-All Solution

Tomazetti pointed out that the biggest misconception is thinking there is only one "best" accommodation option. Homestay, university dormitories, and professionally managed residences each meet different needs, and rather than any being superior, what matters is what suits each individual student.

Priorities differ between a student on an 8-week language course and one on a 3-year degree program, and the needs of an 18-year-old leaving home for the first time differ from those of an adult graduate student. Budget, independence, lifestyle, location, and desired type of experience all influence the choice.

Student needs can change over time. While homestay may provide support and confidence during the initial weeks, other forms may become more suitable as independence grows.

Operators and Support Systems

Tomazetti noted that while students carefully compare room sizes and weekly rates, they rarely consider who operates the accommodation. He explained that local support, transparent communication, and experienced providers make a significant difference when plans change or unexpected situations arise.
